"Children at a West Side gymnasium know that not all of them can jump rope at once, but if they're patient enough and respect their playmates, they'll get a chance. So for the youngsters at the J. Ashburn Jr. Youth Center, sportsmanship goes in tandem with play. But when they get older, what will happen when others command playing time because of superior skills? Will they yield to society's message that winning, not effort, is all that matters? Will fair play ride the bench, if it gets to suit up at all?" (COLUMBUS DISPATCH) This article explains how it is difficult to teach sportsmanship to kids today because "children are bombarded with images of fans and athletes that reflect a win-at-all-costs attitude."
