520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. "Taken from Japanese, the word tsunami typically stimulates thoughts of monstrously tall waves that wipe out coastal communities and kill thousands of people. But tsunamis come in all sizes. Scientists estimate that the death toll of the 141 damaging tsunamis that occurred during the 20th century exceeds 70,000. During the same period, however, at least 900 smaller tsunamis caused no damage whatsoever." (SCIENCE NEWS) This article discusses the study of tsunamis and explains how scientists are becoming more accurate in predicting them.
