"At the International Conference on Finance for Development (FfD) held last month [March 2002] in Monterrey, Mexico, rich countries once again rejected new, invigorating options that would allow poor countries to stand on their own feet, in favour of empty offers of a little more aid. A set of conditions have already been announced by US President George W Bush for countries to access US aid." (DOWN TO EARTH) The authors "analyse the politics of aid, and conclude that developing countries should put down their begging bowls.
