"Mara Kinosian didn't plan on having just one child when her daughter, Mikaela, was born. But now, as a single parent, she says her life seems full enough raising her one and only....Most families start out by having one child. But lately that's where many are stopping. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the percentage of women ages 40 to 44 who had only one child has almost doubled, from 9.6% in 1980 to 17.3% in 1998."
