"As part of the Levine Museum of the New South's exhibit, 'Courage: The Carolina Story That Changed America,' which opened last month [Jan. 2004], John Hope Franklin, professor emeritus at Duke University, will talk about his work with Thurgood Marshall on the Brown v. Board of Education case....The 89-year-old Franklin, who did research for Marshall, is one of the pre-eminent historians of the 20th century and is best known for his classic book 'From Slavery to Freedom' and for chairing then-President Bill Clinton's race advisory board."
