"Plenty of boomers--especially those born in the 1960s--fear Social Security checks will stop with their parents. They're hearing lots of talk. Talk of revamping the system and allowing some people, if they'd like, to put a part of their payroll taxes into personal accounts. Talk of further cuts in future benefits, including a cut somehow in the annual inflation adjustment. Talk of needing to wait another year or two to retire if they want to collect the maximum benefits in Social Security. And yes, many still wonder if their payroll taxes will go higher, too....And they're worried." (DETROIT FREE PRESS) The author ponders the future of America's Social Security system.
